new hobby
Okay, it's not really a new hobby, but I thought I would write about it.
Chatting with people at the diner counter
I frequent the Hubbard Avenue Diner in Middleton, WI. If I'm there alone, I always end up grabbing a seat at the counter. There is always room there, and it's first come first serve. I don't really like waiting in line unless I'm with a group of friends and we all have cups of coffee.
It's almost guaranteed that I can strike up a conversation with someone else at the counter, especially if they are also there alone.
My previous experience was with a lovely elderly woman, who ate her corned beef hash, and chatted with me about technology. She wondered if I had a web cam on my computer to talk to family (she had one, but didn't know how to use it.)
Today I met a nurse from Fort Atkinson, who sat to my left and ordered the upside down taco salad. She was packing a first-gen iPhone, which started our conversation. After discovering I grew up in northern Michigan, she clued me in to her other home, in Watersmeet, Michigan. Her and her husband spend time in the Houghton area while snowmobiling, too.
She asked how my black bean soup was, and admitted she thought it was probably bland as I requested Tabasco sauce. I agreed, and we mentioned Panera's black bean soup, as well as the black bean burger at the diner.
Her daughter went to University of Wisconsin - Madison, and was now in Boulder, Colorado (where, if I ever decide to go back to school, might be my destination.) The daughter would be happy to recommend the Boulder area.
We said our goodbyes, and I returned to my car, opening the windows and moonroof. People are neat.

shake it shake shake it shake it shake shake it
Oh, the Internet. I pay for it twice, just so I can have it on my phone AND and home. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. I'm constantly reminded that it is indeed worth it.
Enter Poladroid. Drag and drop a picture onto the application, and out pops a Polaroid. Of course, you have to wait for the image to develop (shaking it with your mouse doesn't help.) And, you only get ten shots per session, just like the real thing.

Drag and drop, the way life was meant to be.

The finished product. Thanks for the
original, TMT.

monroe cheese days
AJ, Sarah, BJ, Juno, Dave and I went to Monroe for the bi-annual Cheese Days. I ate grilled cheese, cheesecake on a stick, and cheese curds.

Sarah was sad because the tire was bigger than her.

"Best seat in the house."

Sarah was sad because she doesn't like corndogs.

BJ, AJ, and Sarah were sad because the line for cheese
curds involved a 45 minutes wait.

i am... ironman.
I met my fellow business analyst Melissa at the Ironman, to cheer on her boyfriend Ryan.

Apparently he's done this before.

Melissa using's Ryan's camera. Way cooler
than my D40. Can you spot Ryan in red?

Can you find the four things that I like about this picture?

This guy showed you where to go.

Ryan.

Cowboy.

This tool was smoking a cigar in the middle of
the big group. Yeah, I said tool.

buffalo grove days
I spent some time in Buffalo Grove, IL one weekend, and snapped a few pictures during the Buffalo Grove Days parade.

Sonja has red shoes.

Only the beginning.

I played the bass drum for a
parade once. I didn't wear
Raybans, though.

It continues.

Ummmm...

Hydraulics and a scooter.

"No, really, I'm in a parade. Yeah, seriously."

Chucks.

Number three.

Old guys, little cars.

I like this picture because of the smile.

We also ended up in Arlington Heights for lunch.
